Lester Ballard is mad.

He has no one but the woods in which he roams furiously with rifle in hand. He has incredible aim and wins in a playground a series of friends/ stuffed animals with whom he organizes a kind of family, including a companion, a corpse of young woman who committed suicide with her partner, found in a car. A fire causes him to lose everything except his friends/animals of whom he takes revenge by accusing them of doing nothing.

No one listens to him and he calls them "sons of bitches."

His occupation becomes collecting corpses in a cave; some call it necrophilia but perhaps it "s just crazy loneliness.

The son of God knows what is done and what is not done but he does not know what is right and what is wrong. Right and wrong is what concerns only the "sons of bitches" who think they are the law. Lester tells them over and over again that they are not the law but he is the fool and of that they have not the slightest doubt.

A disturbing film that of James Franco, an extraordinary encounter with madness. An experience that transforms the mask of rationality in the face of the disturbing element that distorts vision in an attempt to refocus it.

The ability to make visible in a different way is the absolutely amazing element of this film.
