Can one play with death?

Enoch is very young, dropped out of school, and attends funerals with the awkward air of a caterer. At one he meets Annabel who is immediately interested in him.

She often attends the hospital, telling that she does it for volunteer work; she is fond of Darwin, a naturist, loves animals and especially the carrion beetle, which mates on the corpses feeding its children; she also adores the songbird that thinks it is dying every night and, when it wakes up, surprised that it is still alive, sings.

In reality, Enoch lost his parents in a car accident, has been in a coma for a long time and is convinced he has been dead for a few minutes; Annabel attends the hospital because she has brain cancer.

They love each other madly, converse with his deceased parents and with the kamikaze ghost Hiroshi, Enoch's imaginary friend.

Annabel, always cheerful and smiling, recounts that at the last exam ( in the hospital) she "flunked," she has three months to live; for Enoch in three months one can do many things: learn French, play the xylophone, go to the Galapagos....

While she transfuses, they play cheerful surgeon, secretly hang out in the morgue and draw their silhouettes on the asphalt, joke, laugh, and pretend, acting out a play, that they are living Annabel's last day.

He angrily shouts, "I've been dead for three minutes and you know what? NOTHING!"

Can death be played with?

Can it be exorcised, perhaps?

"Death is easy it is love that is difficult," the suicide bomber will say.

Darwin and the evolution of the species predict a death with no saving solution, the enchanting memories and images remain.

A romantic and disenchanted Gus Van Sant; a love with an expiration date not of end of relationship but of end of life.

Only teenagers know how to play with death?

Mia WasiKowska perfect.

Can one play with death?

YES, but she means business....

Not recommended for fragile hearts.

There is crying, be prepared.
